Bio
Riles Walsh writes, records, and teaches music. His work focuses on the connection of live music and pre-recorded sound, in a trompe-l’orielle fashion. Walsh has written music for DIY Chamber Music, The Duetto Project, the pianist Lorna Krier (Lorna Dune), Shorewood Chamber Singers, and other chamber music ensembles. He has worked with Present Music, The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, New Century Chamber Orchestra, Little Opera, DIY Chamber Music, Acacia Theatre Company, and Music From Almost Yesterday. He received special mention from Eugene Opera for his setting of Milton's At a Solemn Musick in 2021. He has participated in masterclasses with Jerome Kern, Morton Subotnick, Alvin Curran, and Eric Whitacre. His chamber opera, The East Complex, was premiered in 2023. He is also collaborating with pianist Daan Vandewalle for the large-scale multimedia work for piano, Chronotope II: The Unreal Piano. Walsh received a BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and an MM from the Royal Conservatory in Ghent, Belgium.

A chamber opera in three parts
The story revolves around Agnieszka Petrowska, a cleaner who escaped destitution and war in herhometown in the East, and now struggles to make a living in her newly adoptive country. Through moments of reflection, she imagines herself as a powerful god-like being in search of the perfect physical manifestation of the Western ideal.
