Riles Walsh is a composer and music-theater artist working between live and recorded performance. His work uses electronics, repetition, and perceptual ambiguity to create situations where performers encounter, accompany, and sometimes compete with versions of themselves.
Riles Walsh is an American composer and music-theatre artist based in Sweden. His work encompasses chamber opera, vocal and instrumental music, electronics, and multimedia performance, with a particular interest in the interaction between live performers and recorded sound.
Recent projects include the multimedia chamber opera The East Complex, premiered in Ghent in 2023; Guds gyllene ögon, produced at Lund University’s Inter Arts Center in 2024; and an electronic monodrama for soprano, virtual instrument, and projections currently in development.
Walsh holds a master's degree in composition from the Royal Conservatory of Ghent and a bachelor's in composition and technology from the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. His music has been developed and presented in the United States and Europe in collaboration with singers, instrumentalists, ensembles, and interdisciplinary artists.

The East Complex
A chamber opera in three parts
The story revolves around Agnieszka Petrowska, a cleaner who escaped destitution and war in her hometown in the East, and now struggles to make a living in her newly adoptive country. Through moments of reflection, she imagines herself as a powerful god-like being in search of the perfect physical manifestation of the Western ideal.
